Abstract: In this talk, we define the Frame Operator Distance (FOD) and describe how it is related to Benedetto and Fickus's Frame Potential. In particular, we show that global minimizers of the FOD correspond to structured frames (such as finite unit-norm tight frames, or FUNTFs). This motivates the numerical minimization of the FOD, and we derive two numerical procedures for minimizing the FOD.
