Title:

Spectral Reassignment for Improved Estimation

Abstract:

The spectral reassignment method utilizes phase information in the Fourier transform to realign energy in the time-frequency plane. This has the impact of improving upon the precision of frequency estimation for high SNR signals of interest. The technique, first discovered decades ago, has found renewed interest in its application, partly because of the significant improvement in processing power now available. This talk will present some of the essential ideas regarding the spectral reassignment technique and discuss its utility for several applications. Comparisons with other techniques will also be provided.
